Real estate listing cancellation, North Carolina?

On April 24, 2008 / By Real Estate Law Help / In North-Carolina-Real-Estate-Law

I listed through a real eatate agent, some bare land I own. I would like to remove it from the market before the time on the contract expires. There are no offers or contracts on the property. I have had a change of heart regarding the sale pf property which my family has owned for over 100 years.

Anyone know what the law is concerning this?
I would like to thank those responding so far.

I understand that morally, most relators would cancel a listing upon request. I was more concerned with any laws related to doing such. Usually, there are cancellation clauses in the standard contracts. In my home state, there are such. I looked at the doc’s from NC and found no such provisions for cancellation.

Again. I am looking at the legal ramifications to canceling.

You can request to have it taken off the market. I am a NC Realtor and would NEVER consider holding someone to a listing agreement if they change their mind. As long as it is being taken off the market and not being re-listed with another agency you are not doing anything wrong. This should be as simple as a phone call to your Realtor and going into the office to sign the cancellation.

Just tell the realtor to take it off the market. Its your decision and the law has nothing to do with it.
